You’ve got your business up and running, work or orders are coming in and now you’re ready to take a step back from the coalface. But who’s going to be working in the business while you’re working on the business?
My free book – The 7-Figure Plateau underlines the ongoing value of having the right peg in its correct hole.
New business owners, flush with early success and a growing order book, can sometimes be too keen to make what appear to be money-saving decisions…which soon come back to haunt them. Trust me, I know – I’ve done it myself.
After getting my business operating well, I decided to expand. That meant getting away from the everyday operations to work on forward planning for growth. I needed to hire someone to cover some of my regular duties – and that’s where I slipped up.
Hiring employees based on price rather than experience can be a false economy and that’s exactly how it turned out for my business. My employee, although great for the wage bill, simply didn’t have the experience required to work in the business without a lot of supervision. That, in turn, dragged me away from working on the business to spend too much time back in the business.
My fault entirely – I put a square peg in a round hole and it cost me both time and money. Don’t you make the same mistake.
My free book – The 7-Figure Plateau – is packed with more tips aiding your transition to working on your business, not in it.
